Class Policies
Class Participation
You are responsible for completing weekly assignments, participating in class discussions, and checking your Google Classroom on a daily basis. This will help you plan accordingly for due dates and studying for tests and quizzes.
Assignment Deadlines
You will always be given explicit instructions on when and where to submit your assignments. The exact dates will always be found in the assignment directions on Google Classroom. If you wish to complete an assignment prior to the due date, you may.
Late Work Policy
It is highly recommended that you begin each assignment early. Work on it regularly over the week rather than waiting until the last day or two. This will allow you to have the chance to work through problems and/or get help if needed to avoid turning in any late assignments.
Any assignments that are not turned in at the assignment due date will be put in the gradebook as a 0 (even if a student is absent) to accurately reflect the students grade. Students who are absent will have 5 days to make up assignments for full credit. Students may turn in assignments late; however, the assignment will be subject to a grade of 50, in addition to the accuracy of the assignment being turned in. Any and all late work must be completed prior to the end of each unit test in order to receive credit and will be graded as soon as possible.
Turnaround Time
E-mail messages will be answered within 24 hours on weekdays and 48 hours on weekends.
Academic Integrity
Under all circumstances, students are expected to be honest in their dealings with the teacher, faculty, administrative staff, and fellow students. Students must submit work that fairly and accurately reflects their level of accomplishment. Any work that is not a product of the student’s own effort is considered dishonest and will result in a grade of 0.
HELPFUL TIPS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE 8TH GRADE:
SET ASIDE TIME TO WORK ON YOUR ASSIGNMENTS AND TO TAKE A BREAK: Life can be pretty hectic sometimes. Developing time management skills can be beneficial to ensure all of your work gets done. Find a system (phone calendar, agenda, etc...) that works for you to map out your day, week, and even your month. This will ensure that you never forget a task. There is way too much going on in life to try to remember it all. And writing it on your hand only works until you take a shower! After class, plan on spending approximately 10 - 20 minutes a day for this class on individual assignments. This time should include, but not limited to: studying class notes, reading your textbook, and completing lab reports.
ASK QUESTIONS: Don’t be afraid to let me know if you can’t make something work, don’t know how to do something, or just don’t understand. I am here to help!
PARTICIPATE: The amount of effort you put in, is the amount of success you will experience. Remember, every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
SUBMIT YOUR WORK ON TIME: Assignments serve two purposes: to learn the content and to understand the importance of deadlines. Any assignment turned in after the assigned due date, with the exception of homework, will receive a maximum grade of 50. Late homework will be given a grade of "1" if it is turned in late. If you need more time, make sure to email your teacher to let them know you need an extension even though there will be a point deduction. It's always nice to let someone know why you will be late.
